We can’t afford to forget Labour’s record on crime.

We can’t afford to forget Labour’s record on crime

The last time Labour was in Government, Chris Hipkins was Minister of Police.

Labour did not target cutting crime. It targeted cutting the prison population by 30 percent.

While the prison population fell, the consequences of crime went in the opposite direction:

  • Retail crime nearly doubled.
  • Gang membership increased by 75 percent.
  • Youth offending increased by 21 percent.
  • Ram raids increased by more than 550 percent.
  • Victims of crime more than doubled.

They didn’t cut crime. They cut consequences.

The Sensible Sentencing Trust’s new We Can’t Afford Labour advertisement puts Labour’s record on crime and sentencing in front of voters before 7 November.

But getting this message onto television takes a nationwide campaign.
